KCU medical students earn residency placements in Primary Care and other critical specialties on record match

KCU Osteopathic medicine students earn residency match placements in primary care, anesthesiology, surgery, and other specialties

Kansas City University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine medical students are once again leading the region in primary care, with 218 student doctors placing in specialties including internal medicine, pediatrics and family medicine during the National Resident Matching Program’s (NRMP) Match Day 2023.

The NRMP reported a record number of medical students and graduates placed into medical residencies on Match Day 2023, with 40,375 applicants securing residency placements.

Match Day aligns medical students with residency training programs in specialties as they prepare to complete their degrees and transition into their careers.

As of March 24, 2023, 99 percent of KCU-COM students placed in a medical residency program, with nearly 55 percent placing in primary care residencies.

KCU is the leading producer of physicians for the state of Missouri and is the second-leading producer of physicians for the state of Kansas, and ranks ninth nationally for its impact on primary care, according to a scientific analysis published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Health Forum.

KCU student doctors secured a wide range of specialty residency placements as well including anesthesiology (22), surgery (15), dermatology (2), neurology (14) and psychiatry (22).

  5. Kansas – 22
  6. Florida – 22
  7. Michigan – 20
  8. Ohio – 18
  9. New York – 15
  10. Pennsylvania – 14
