Dear KCU Community,

For the first time in two years we will gather in person for the KCU Homecoming and CME conference: Changing Health Care for Good. The activities begin on September 22 for the CME, awards dinner and class reunions. It is a great time to connect and celebrate with your KCU friends and colleagues. Be sure to reserve your spot now.

July was another busy month with lots of great activities. Student orientations, We Care Days – our new student community service activities – and COM White Coating celebrations were wonderful reminders of the growth of the KCU community. As we continue to deal with various Omicron variants of COVID-19, another virus has surfaced, raising concerns. Dr. Rex Archer, director of our Population and Public Health program and professor of Public Health, is versed in this particular disease and has issued a statement on our website. Having subject matter experts on our faculty to guide us and inform our community are another way we are improving the well-being of the communities we serve.

WHITE COATING CEREMONIES FOR CLASSES OF 2025 & 2026

KCU-COM celebrated two classes of student doctors during four ceremonies – two each in Kansas City and Joplin.

Dr. Rex Archer, formerly the director of the City of Kansas City Health Department from 1998-2021 and now KCU's director of Population and Public Health & professor of Public Health, provides details on the growing concerns around this emerging health concern.

PsyD PARTNERS WITH KCPD ON DEEP BREATHING STUDY

KCU student psychologists Taylor Stuteville and Allison Sproles partnered with the Kansas City Police Department to study how deep breathing techniques can improve firearm safety.

KCU-CDM SECURES $1.5M

FEDERAL HRSA GRANT

KCU-CDM was awarded the grant as part of HRSA's Predoctoral Training General, Pediatric and Public Health Dentistry and Dental Hygiene program. This is the second notable HRSA grant KCU has received in the past six months.
