KCU Score 1 for Health CHAMPS program med students led the CHAMPS Anatomy Academy for students at Joplin’s McKinley Elementary. The educational outreach program aims to help combat childhood obesity, promoting healthy living while encouraging the pursuit of higher education through the teaching of anatomy and basic nutrition.

Doctors and hospitals across the country are seeing an alarming rise is cases of RSV, a respiratory virus that can be life-threatening. Dr. Gautam Desai, KCU professor and chair of Primary Care appeared on Fox 4 news in Kansas City to give insight.

Before donning the physician’s iconic white coat, Robert Arnce, MD, KCU-Joplin assistant professor of Primary Care, suited up in pads and cleats as a football standout at Carl Junction (Missouri) High School and William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri.

Kansas City University (KCU) welcomed Sharon Gustowski, DO, MPH as Kansas City campus dean - College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM). 

In 1952 Norbert Conrad graduated from the Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery as a doctor of osteopathic medicine. Fast forward 70 years, his alma mater, now known as Kansas City University (KCU), has a very different learning environment, yet the same values remain.

KCU welcomed three new leaders recently.

Her work alongside Doug Bittel, PhD, KCU professor of biosciences, helped KCU-College of Biosciences alum (’19) Allison Ogren develop patience and the ability to pivot when things don’t go as planned. As part of her thesis, she worked with Bittel at Children’s Mercy analyzing the molecular biology of congenital heart defects and post-transcriptional modifications on spliceosomal RNA.

October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Kansas City University alumna, Dr. Deepa Halaharvi, is a breast cancer survivor and a breast cancer surgeon. She shares her unique story and a message of hope.
