Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences is pleased to announce that Kevin Lockett has joined the KCU Board of Trustees. Lockett is a partner and chief financial officer at Fulcrum Global Capital, a venture capital fund focused on investments in the agriculture and animal health sectors.

At Fulcrum, Lockett is responsible for fund administration, as well as for identifying, evaluating, financing and managing innovative food production, food safety and food waste investment opportunities. Prior to his current position, Lockett served in several roles at the Kansas Bioscience Authority, most recently as chief executive officer. In that capacity, he led the organization in attracting and growing the bioscience sector as an economic growth engine for the state of Kansas. Lockett also worked for several years at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, including as chief operations officer of the Urban Entrepreneur Partnership, and as an entrepreneur-in-residence, raising angel investment funds for Kansas City businesses and providing business coaching for entrepreneurs.

“Mr. Lockett brings extensive finance and operations experience to the board, and we are pleased to have him join KCU as a trustee,” said Marc B. Hahn, DO, KCU president and CEO. “His entrepreneurial mindset, expertise in the biosciences and keen understanding of how to grow non-profit organizations will be valuable assets as we continue to innovate and advance our vision of becoming a leading health sciences university.”

A former professional football player, Lockett’s 7-year National Football League career included positions with the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets. In 1998, he and his family formed a nonprofit organization that encourages academic achievement in public schools.

“This is an era of great opportunity and continuing growth for KCU, and I’m excited to be joining the board at such a pivotal time,” said Lockett. “I look forward to working with the other trustees and the University’s leadership to help achieve KCU’s strategic goals and further its success.”

Lockett serves on a number of other boards in the region, including INTRUST Bank, United Way of Greater Kansas City and Kansas State University’s advisory board for the Center of Advancement and Entrepreneurship. He recently completed his term as a board member of the Kansas State University Foundation, where he served as the chair of the finance and asset management committees. He previously served on Kansas State University’s President’s Advisory Council on Intercollegiate Athletics and as president of the Kansas City Chiefs Ambassadors. In 2015, the Kansas City Business Journal named Lockett “CFO of the Year.”
