Charlotte Kerner, CPA

Charlotte Kerner is chief financial officer and senior vice president of business performance at the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), a nonprofit which represents over 130,000 family physicians, residents and students providing advocacy, education and patient and practice resources.

The AAFP’s mission is to improve the health of patients, families and communities by serving member needs with professionalism and creativity. Ms. Kerner’s responsibilities with AAFP encompass serving on the board of directors and commission on finance and leading the financial operations of the organization including financial reporting, financial planning and analysis, as well as investments and cash management.

In addition, she works with other leaders to improve business performance and leads the information technology division of the organization. Ms. Kerner obtained her Bachelors and Masters of Accounting degrees from the University of Missouri - Columbia and worked as a certified public accountant at Price Waterhouse for seven years. Ms. Kerner has worked with several other area for-profit companies in financial leadership roles including Gear for Sports, Applebee’s International and Beauty Brands.

She has successfully developed and executed business growth strategies and delivered profitability improvements through process improvement, vendor negotiations and empowering teams to execute the plans. Her unyielding integrity, passion for developing staff and customer focus have contributed to her success. She has also served on the boards of the Financial Executives International, Kansas City chapter and Women Vision International
