Frequently Asked Questions about Interview Day
What should I wear?
While we encourage individuality please remember that this is a professional interview and should be viewed as such. The safest choice for any interview is a suit in a conservative color like black, navy, gray or tan. It is perfectly fine to wear a blouse, shirt or tie that has some color. We encourage you to avoid uncomfortable shoes, as there will be a walking tour during the day.
What should I bring?
Bring your photo ID (driver’s license or passport) to check in. You may also bring your luggage and we will store it for you during the day. Luggage can be picked up after you check out at the end of the day.
How should I prepare for the interviews?
Make yourself familiar with our mission and values so that you can begin to see if you will be a good fit for our University. Review your AACOMAS and KCU Secondary applications, including your personal statement and activities. Practice interviewing, and think of some of your own questions about our program.
Can I bring a guest?
Due to limited space and our planned agenda, guests may not participate in interview activities. We host Accepted Student Day events on each campus, in the spring for students who have been accepted. This event is to allow you to revisit campus, show your family members KCU and meet future classmates.
What if I am late to campus on my Interview Day?
While we fully expect you to be on time and prepared for the day, we understand that things, outside of your control, may interfere with you making it to campus on time for your Interview Day. If you find yourself running late to campus, please call and notify us as soon as possible so that we can make necessary arrangements on our end.
What if I need to cancel my Interview Day?
If you decide that you are no longer planning to attend Interview Day, please notify us as soon as possible so that we may offer your interview seat to another interested applicant. As a professional courtesy, please notify us at least 24 hours before your Interview Day is scheduled to begin.
What will the weather be like?
Kansas City and Joplin experience all four seasons. We encourage you to check the forecast a few days before your interview and again the morning of, to determine what kind of outerwear you might need. This is especially important during winter months when temperatures can dip below zero degrees.
When should I schedule my flights?
Kansas City: If your interview day begins at 8 am, we encourage you to schedule flights after 4:30 pm. If your interview day begins at 11 am, we encourage you to schedule flights after 6:30 pm. This allows you adequate time to reach the airport and catch your flight following your interview day. If you feel this could be an issue, please contact our office at least five days prior to your interview day.
Joplin Campus: Due to the limited flight schedule in and out of the Joplin Regional Airport, it may not be possible to fly out of Joplin the same day as your interview. However, flights may be available from nearby airports such as Springfield-Branson National Airport or Tulsa International Airport. Since these locations are more than an hour driving, we highly recommend not scheduling flights out of these airports before 5:30 pm. for morning interviewees and 7:30 pm. for afternoon interviews.
