With a career defined by service, leadership and innovation in osteopathic medicine, W. Joshua Cox, DO, FACOFP, executive dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine at Kansas City University (KCU), has been honored with the American Academy of Osteopathy’s (AAO) distinguished Academy Award.
Established in 2000, the AAO Academy Award honors individuals outside the Academy who have demonstrated a commitment to osteopathic principles and have fostered collaboration across the profession. This prestigious award recognizes visionary leadership and the promotion of osteopathic medicine. It aligns with the AAO’s mission to teach, advocate and research the science, art and philosophy of osteopathic medicine. The award also emphasizes the integration of osteopathic principles, practices and manipulative treatment in patient care.
Throughout his tenure at KCU, Cox has demonstrated a deep commitment to innovation in medical education and a passion for mentoring the next generation of osteopathic physicians.
“This award is a reflection of the collaborative spirit and unwavering dedication of the entire KCU community,” said Cox. “I’m honored by this recognition and remain committed to advancing osteopathic medicine for the betterment of patients, students and the broader health care community.”
As executive dean of KCU’s College of Osteopathic Medicine and vice provost for Medical Affairs, Cox leads curriculum development, faculty advancement, clinical operations and compliance oversight. A 2000 College of Osteopathic Medicine alumnus of KCU, he is a board-certified family physician and a fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. His career has included service in the U.S. Army, over a decade of leadership at KCU and active involvement with numerous national osteopathic boards and committees. This latest honor joins a growing list of accolades, including his recognition as the 2019 Osteopathic Family Medicine Educator of the Year, reflecting his longstanding dedication to excellence in both clinical practice and academic leadership.
