Olivia Kaufman, a second-year medical student at Kansas City University, is gaining hands-on experience with the kids she hopes to treat one day—not in a clinic, but on a baseball field. At the Miracle League of Joplin’s season opener, the aspiring pediatrician guided young children at bat and around the bases, offering encouragement and support throughout the game.
“I really enjoyed it,” Kaufman said. “These kids get to feel special and included — it’s a great way to connect with the community.”
