Fourth-year medical students attending Kansas City University (KCU) College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) gathered on the Kansas City and Joplin campuses as well as remotely to celebrate their achievements during the residency match process.
During Match Day medical students find out in which residency training programs and specialties they placed as they transition into the next stage of their careers. This period of learning after graduation from medical school can be an additional three to seven years depending on the specialty.
KCU student doctors placed in programs in a multitude of different specialties both regionally and across the nation.
As of March 21st, over 99 percent of KCU-COM students have secured post graduate placement, with over 50 percent placing in primary care residencies.
"One day summarizes every hour of hard work. I am pleased to have matched into diagnostic radiology at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia. I am even more excited for my classmates who have matched all across the country. It is hard to put into words how exciting Match Day can be for medical students," said Ensign Logan Bader, KCU-COM class of 2024 student doctor.
“Earning residency placement is not only a milestone, but a tremendous accomplishment. We congratulate our student doctors as they take the next step of their medical careers,” said W. Joshua Cox, DO, FACOFP, executive dean of the KCU-COM. “They will soon graduate and join an alumni base of more than 10,000 fulfilling KCU’s mission of improving the well-being of the communities we serve.”
KCU is the leading producer of physicians in Missouri, the second-leading producer of physicians for the state of Kansas and ranks as the ninth most impactful medical school in primary care nationally, according to data released by the Journal of the American Medical Association.
