Sharon M. Gordon, DDS, MPH, PhD

Background
Dr. Sharon Gordon is professor and the inaugural Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research at the Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine. She earned a bachelor's degree in biology from the University of North Texas, a DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and completed a two-year GPR at Medical Center Hospital in San Antonio prior to joining the NIH in 1993 as a postdoctoral fellow. While conducting her fellowship she earned an MPH in Epidemiology and PhD in Clinical Investigation, both from Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Gordon is board certified in the specialty of Dental Public Health and conducts clinical, translational, and population-based research on pain, analgesia and anesthesia.
Dr. Gordon has held academic leadership positions at the NIDCR, NIH, as well as with dental schools at the University of Maryland, East Carolina University and the University of Connecticut. At the national level she served on the ADA panel to develop Clinical Pain Guidelines, and is currently councilor for the American Association of Dental Oral and Craniofacial Research where she also coordinates judging for the ADA/Dentsply Student Clinician Program (SCADA).
