Fresno Region

Clerkships in the Fresno Region are comprised of California Health Sciences University locations encompassing the highly agricultural Central Valley of California. The Central Valley has some of the poorest health outcomes of the entire state of California, as well as the lowest number of physicians per capita of the state. There will be opportunities for providing care to the underserved, as well as care for Spanish-speaking patients.

The Central Valley is well located for the outdoor enthusiast: 2.5 from the coast, 3 hours from San Francisco, 4 hours from wine country, 1 hour from the Sequoias and skiing, and 3 hours from Yosemite.

• Facility Resources: Students will have access to computers, internet, lounge, medical library, medical records, phones and printers while on duty at the hospitals

Duties & Opportunities

• Student Duties: Students are required to participate in night call and weekend rounds as assigned by the preceptor or service
• Didactic Opportunities: Students are required to participate in lectures (approximately 2 half days per month) as well as daily patient rounds and required reading as assigned
• OMT/OPP Opportunities: Opportunities for skill development in OMT/OPP is available during some clerkships

Unique Site Characteristics

• ACLS and BLS certifiations must be current
• Access to brand new state-of-the art osteopathic medical school building with simulation and augmented reality learning opportunities
• Background check and drug screen required annually
• Copy of Curriculum Vitae (CV) required
• Fingerprinting may be required for some clerkships
