Global Health Track
Learn and experience firsthand the challenges and possibilities of international health care. Our application-based, competitive Global Health track, available at both the Kansas City and Joplin campuses, prepares to you practice on a global scale.
Components of the track include formal didactic sessions delivered synchronously and asynchronously and clinical experiences abroad, culminating with a required capstone research project.
The track begins in the spring semester of the first year and spans all years of the College of Osteopathic Medicine education.
Years 1 and 2
- Approximately 20-30 additional hours of medical education
- Review of determinants of health and burden of disease in developed/developing nations
- Review of commonly seen tropical diseases and comparative health systems
- Selection of area of interest for research in your first year
Years 3 and 4
- A minimum of three months (12 weeks) in international clerkships
- Completion of research capstone project
- Mentorship of first- and second-year students in the Global Health track
Highlights
- Up to 15 students from each class may be selected
- Apply at the end of your first semester, first year
- Start during your second semester, first year
- Must be in the top third of your class to apply
- Grading is pass/fail
