Dennis M. Abbott, DDS

Director, Predoctoral Curriculum and Integrated Learning

Dr. Abbott is a dentist scientist with experience in wet bench laboratory science, translational research and clinical investigations. With more than 25 years’ experience delivering direct patient care, Dr. Abbott has an eye for recognizing clinical applications in scientific findings.

He is passionate about developing and delivering the optimal oral health care to those battling cancer. Most recently, his research focused on the benefits realized from orally delivered antioxidants on medication- and radiation-related osteonecrosis of the jaw. Dr. Abbott’s other research interests include the pathogenicity of the oral microbiome, quorum sensing in oral bacteria, conferred pathogenicity between oral bacteria species, and the link between oral health and systemic health. As Director of Predoctoral Curriculum and Integrated Learning, Dr. Abbott is also interested in optimal learning strategies for the predoctoral learner in dental education and the advantages of an integrated dental curriculum.
