Biomed Student Success
The College of Biosciences Class of 2017 with a Masters in Biomedical Sciences is the largest cohort in the history of the program. Of the 105 Biomed graduates, 78 students or 74 percent of the class are pursuing further paths in medicine and biosciences. Students have chosen routes ranging from medical school to other doctoral programs and biomedical science career paths.
Seventy-two graduates have been accepted to doctoral programs, including medical school, PharmD programs, and PhD programs. Of these future doctoral students, 46 students were accepted to KCU-COM on both the Kansas City and Joplin campuses, and 23 students were accepted to 15 other medical schools. Four students were accepted into a physician’s assistant program, PhD program, or PharmD program.
Other paths for the KCU Biomed students included five students who went on to employment in the biomedical sciences field, as well as 14 students who voluntarily took a gap year and will apply to medical schools in the upcoming year.
The success of these students in further pursuing their health professions passions exemplifies the mission of KCU.
