Submission Guidelines
o Abstract limit is 300 words maximum.
o All abstracts submitted must be original work and must be previously unpublished work, however, abstracts presenting findings or novel analyses that are not included in a full publication may be submitted.
o Encore abstracts (the same research findings presented at more than one conference) are permitted.
o Only original material should be submitted, and no literature reviews are accepted, except with new research/development content, proposed theory and/or hypothesis.
o Commercial abstracts, abstracts with no new research/development content and abstracts with proprietary restrictions will not be accepted.
o All abstracts must be scientific in nature and without inclusion of commercial messages or inappropriate references to specific products, services, commercial concerns or political messages.
Abstract structure
o The title should be in lowercase letters with only the first word capitalized. EXAMPLE: Temperature dependence of ionizing radiation effect on dry preparations of bacterial enzymes
o Author and co-authors’ institutions must be identified.
o The body of the abstract should be single-spaced. Tables, graphs and structural formulae may not be included, although simple mathematical formulas are acceptable.

Posters Instructions
· All KCU affiliates must use the approved research poster templates found here: https://mykcu.kansascity.edu/marketing/brand-assets.
· The symposium will provide an online portal for KCU affiliates to upload posters for printing. Participants who are not affiliated with KCU are responsible for printing their own posters and must adhere to KCU’s guidelines on size.
· Maximum poster dimensions are 48”x 36”.
· Poster presenters will be notified with the day and location of their presentation.
· Poster figures must be clear of blur/distortion and the fonts must be legible from a standing distance.
· Posters must be on display by 9 am on the presenter’s designated day and taken down no later than 5 pm the same day.
· The presenting author must accompany the poster between 9 – 11 am for at least one hour on their designated day.
Live (podium) presentations
· The allotted time for live presentations is 12 minutes total: 10 minutes for the presentation and two minutes for questions. You must finish on time, or you will be asked to leave the podium for the next speaker.
· Speakers will be provided with a portal to upload their presentations ahead of time.
· Presentations must be in a Microsoft PowerPoint format.
· All KCU affiliates must use the approved PowerPoint templates found here: https://mykcu.kansascity.edu/marketing/brand-assets.
Summer Students Research fellowship (SSRF) recipients
· All SSRF recipients are required to present at the symposium. Presentations are live (no posters required) and will take place the afternoon of April 2.
· All SSRF recipients are expected to attend the closing and award lunch to receive their achievement certificate.
Third and Fourth-year COM Students
We recognize it will be difficult for our third- and fourth-year COM students on clinical clerkship rotations outside of the Kansas City or Joplin areas to attend in person, therefore we will offer a virtual presentation format. Please keep the following in mind:
· There is an option for you to select during the registration and submission.
· The allotted presentation time is five minutes with two minutes for questions.
· The presentation must be in a PowerPoint format and contain no more than five slides.
· You will be notified of the times and dates of the presentation.
