The Missouri Dental Association (MDA) has named Jacqueline (Jackie) M. Miller, DDS, MS, MPH, adjunct assistant professor at Kansas City University’s (KCU) College of Dental Medicine (CDM), as the recipient of its 2024 Dentist of the Year award. This honor, one of the highest recognitions presented by the MDA, celebrates a member’s exceptional dedication to the profession, organized dentistry and the oral health of the public.
A respected orthodontist, educator and public health advocate, Miller joined KCU in 2024 where she teaches undergraduate orthodontic curriculum at the Joplin campus. Prior to her appointment at KCU, she served as Missouri State Dental Director, where she secured a highly competitive grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and led statewide initiatives to improve oral health outcomes for Missourians.
Miller’s 30-year career in private orthodontic practice encompasses leadership roles in numerous professional dental organizations, including the American Association of Orthodontists, the Missouri Society of Orthodontists, and the Greater St. Louis Dental Society. She is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics and a two-time recipient of the American Association of Orthodontists Humanitarian Award and Distinguished Service Award.
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Miller has made an indelible impact through service. As a founding member of the Washington Overseas Medical and Dental Mission, she has organized more than 30 international dental and medical service trips. She remains an active volunteer with initiatives such as Give Kids A Smile and the Missouri Mission of Mercy.
“Dr. Miller’ serves as an outstanding role model for our dental students as a clinician and public health advocate who led with both skill and heart,” said Linda C. Niessen, DMD, MPH, MPP, founding dean of the College of Dental Medicine and vice provost for oral health affairs. “Her dedication to public service, oral health equity, and dental education embodies the mission of KCU to improve the well-being of the communities we serve.”
Earlier this year, Miller also received the Award of Merit from the Greater St. Louis Dental Society, which recognized her leadership and outstanding service to the community. She has been honored with numerous awards over the course of her career, including the Missouri Dental Association’s Presidential Citation Award (2024), the International College of Dentists Fellowship, and Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award.
