Dental Medicine

Members of the Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine Class of 2028 officially began their educational journey toward becoming dentists with a white coat ceremony on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Joplin High School Performing Arts Center.

Second-year dental student Alexon Tiem helped lead efforts to establish a brand-new chapter of the American Student Dental Association (ASDA) at KCU College of Dental Medicine.

The funding is part of Delta Dental of Missouri’s 2024 mission giving initiatives, which included awarding nearly $350,000 in oral health grants to eight organizations to support oral health initiatives, educational programs and charitable causes across the state.

It’s been a year of firsts at Kansas City University College of Dental Medicine, which opened in Joplin in 2023, with 80 students in its first class. Three of those students are recipients of the Indian Health Service’s Health Professions scholarship. 

Students admitted to a new accelerated med school and dental school program announced by Pittsburg State University and Kansas City University will save money and time on their path to becoming health care professionals, getting them into the field of medicine more quickly at a time when physicians and dentists are in demand in rural areas like Southeast Kansas and Southwest Missouri.
